Source water in the Museum Carmen Thyssen.

La fuente de Reding, de Guillermo Gómez GilAs person from Malaga fills to me with pride to be provided with the Museum Thyssen in my ground. Part of the work exhibited in this Museum already knew it. Although there are very good paintings, which more have paid my attention have been those of Guillermo Gómez Gil. This painter was born in 1862 in my native ground, Malaga, and formed in this city, being its teacher Emilio Ocón y Rivas, professor of Fine arts, who created school in Malaga, stopping several disciples.

Gomez Gil specialized in scenery and marina, in fact in the above mentioned it detaches an impressive luminosity, with reflexes of dawns or exceptional evenings.

I have always felt fascinated by the painting of local customs and manners, since it is one of the genres to which I devote myself. That’s why I have concentrated on “The source of Reading”. In this work the painter has captured the personages, the donkey in the first term, and the women filling the pitchers and another donkey drinking in the source in the second term. And this perspective of the way, which in age of that time one of the main routes of access to the city, the called way of Velez, in third term.

It is of emphasizing how this painter shows exactly main the distance, giving him ambience. If we contemplate this work closely we can observe such free and impressionistic strokes that it has.

To admire a realistic picture it is necessary to have a certain sensibility, since its mere contemplation supposes a therapy for the observer for the relaxation that it provokes.

In the Reading source I felt especially relaxed. Almost they gave me desire of approaching the pipe of the water to satisfy my thirst.
